August 2021

We have been very blessed this summer to have a nice amount of rain. It’s making our place very green. With the green comes mowing!  I’m not complaining because I really enjoy mowing. It just makes everything look so neat and clean.

Cooper and I have discussing these Moss Balls that we think would be fun to grow. I really wanted to get the Mossimo balls but it seems they can’t be purchased due to them being invaded by zebra mussels. I went to the local Petco and the girl there confirmed what I had been reading. She says at this time the only moss balls they have are the Java Moss ones. I buy three of the little guys.

Excited to get the moss balls in their proper place I make a trip to Norman so Cooper and I can get her habitat set up. Very easy to add some rocks to a glass container and place the moss balls in the water. Of course the perfect situation would have a beta fish to swim around but neither Cooper or I wanted to add another pet to the mix. The container looks great so we will see how this goes.

I went home and for my little habitat set up as well. I kept two of the balls for myself. My only concern is transporting them to Arizona when we leave next month. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. (ended up giving them to a friend so I didn't have to transport them)

August 19th     Excitement of the day is that it’s Cooper and Cash’s first day of school. Hard to believe they have grown so much and are in the 5th grade and the 8th. I hope and pray they have a great school year.

We latch onto the new to us RZR for a Colorado adventure. Diana & Chris are going as well. Our destination is South Fork, Colorado. Looking for a little cooler weather and some fun times riding some trails.

Our first night on the road was spent in Clayton NM at an interesting RV park. Coyote Keeths really was a nice stop over. The pull through sites are great. We met the owners later in the evening as they were doing some chores around the park. This little mom and pop park is pretty much self sustainable. When you call and reserve a spot the instructions are given to just pull into any site that has an orange cone on it. Worked great for us. We went into town and ate at the local spot. We even sat at a table that had Coyote Keeths advertisement on it. Chris and I had the chicken fried steak and Diana and Chuck had the fried catfish. The food was very good. Made a perfect end to a nice day on the road.

After a restful nights sleep we are up and ready to get to South Fork, CO. We can’t be in too big of hurry because we can’t check in to our spot there until after 1pm.

We roll into Alpine Ridge RV Park in the early afternoon. It’s a nice enough park. You have to use the overflow area to park your RZR or vehicle. We unload the RZR and use the overflow for our trailer. Diana and Chris have to unload their RZR from their toy hauler and they use the overflow spot for their truck.

We are trying to get the Wi-Fi hooked up and Chuck asked me for the password for the RV park.  I told him what the brochure said the password was and he seems to be having issues connecting. The password has a numeric 1 in it and I proceed to explain to him the password.  I come out the door and stick my index finger in the air and say "Capital one"......You should have seen the looks I got from Chris and Chuck....and then Chuck asked again and I said "Capital One"....how hard was that.....LOL.....then I realized my mistake.....oh the moments!!!

We are situated and decide to drive over and get the appropriate permits so we can ride the RZRs out of the park to the trails that surround this little town. The park ranger was very nice and informative. We have limited areas that can be occupied by our RZRs and there are set times that you can ride on those routes. We have the rules down and tomorrow we will check out some of the areas the ranger has pointed out to us.

9-21 we are ready to explore the area. Our first was to fill up the RZRs with gas. You can’t get on the trail to the only station in town  until 9am so as soon as it was 9 we were heading to get gas.

Since we had no idea where we wanted to go, we pick one of the trails that’s closest to us and check it out. Our choice of trails made a great ride and was a lot of fun.  The road was very rocky and we truly didn’t see anyone else until later in the afternoon.  We could have explored more but felt we needed to get back so Bronco wouldn’t think we deserted her.  That’s one of the obstacles we have since we have a pet.  We have to make sure we don’t stay out too long.  At least when we are in Yuma we have a fenced yard and Bronco is fine to be left for a long day.

We ate Mexican Food at a local place in South Fork.  I was just commenting on the Magpie bird that is usually found in Colorado.  No more do I talk about it and we look out the window in the restaurant and there were about a dozen magpies out in the fields.  Pretty excited to see all them!

One of our trips  took us down the road to Creed, CO. Chris drove the truck and we enjoyed walking around the quaint little towns main street.  What an interesting little town.  We even found the local Elks Lodge!  It was not open, but I was able to get a picture of Chuck in front of it.  Pretty cool door!

Lunch was had at the Pizzeria 8852'  The guys running the place were so very nice.  Since we had Bronco we asked if she could come into the restaurant while we ate.  They said it was fine.  We had a really good pizza.  It was a fun day exploring the town of Creed!

August 24th.  Another RZR day!  We decided to ride to Wheelers Geology and the Enchanted City and check it out.  Was a great ride and we really had most of the day to ourselves.  The terrain was more fun and we had a few mud puddles to go through as well.....I should say that Chris went through the mud puddles, we chose the dry route.  When we get to Wheelers there are some other people parked there and we decide it is time for lunch.  Gosh, I think all the wildlife is used to everyone coming and feeding them.

The chipmunks were extremely friendly and even came right up to Diana and took food from her hand.  Not to be outdone, the birds of the area would swoop in and grab food from her extended arm. Pretty darn cool if you ask me.

Lunch is over so we decide to turn around and head back towards home base.  The road up is a little tight in some areas and we were lucky enough to not run into any oncoming traffic, but on the way back we weren't so lucky.  A lady driving a jeep decided she was going to come through come hell or high water and we were trying to get moved out of her way and she clips the back tire of the RZR.  Not a sorry or anything from her.  Have I ever told you how much I hate pushy people!!!!  Just sayin....

We were surprised to see all the cattle on the mountains.  We were told that the cowboys come around and move the cattle back down the mountain so they can graze their way back to the top.  The cattle had such beautiful coats.  So vibrant in color!

We even met a family that had pretty much decided they were lost and weren't going to find Wheelers Geology but we gave them some directions and they decided to continue their ride.  Most of the time the people you meet are so very nice.  Heck we are all out here just enjoying nature!

August 25th....our final day to ride before we head back to Oklahoma.  We get up and go to "Rachel's" for breakfast.  We enjoyed it very much, enough that Diana and I bought one of her shirts to prove it.  No picture of the shirt but check out their cool coffee cups!

Today we would do another area that we hadn't explored and the Groundhog fields were our go to destination.  We enjoyed the ride exploring more of the Rio Grande National Forest.  Sadly we didn't see any groundhogs....just their holes....LOL.  Back at our base we start loading up for our trip back home tomorrow.

Diana and Chris pull out about an hour earlier than we did.  I think they were tired of following our slow pace....but I know they had decided to get back home and go to the lake, so they were on a mission.  We on the other hand were not in a giant hurry.  I get a text from Diana with an attached picture and to me it looked like they had a blow out, but she said they just lost the side skirt on the trailer around Trinidad, CO.  So glad it was only a cosmetic problem and not a tire issue!

Chuck and I stop in Clayton, NM to fuel up.  We pull into the station we usually do and as we stood there I see a guy pulling in and kind of blocking traffic as he waits for the pump closest to him to open.  Well, it didn't go fast enough for him so he guns his truck and drags his trailer up the incline to another pump.  As he drives up by us I notice he has NO TIRE on one of his back axels on the trailer.  Wonder how long that has been going on!  I tell Chuck and ask him if I should go tell him.  The guy seems like he is a bit irritated and wasn't sure if I even wanted to stick my nose in his business.  But, hey why not....so I go over and tell him.  He comes around to the passenger side of the trailer and examines his problem.  He said "wonder when that happened".....like I had a clue!  Just another reason we use tire minders!  Golly, there are sure a lot of interesting people out this week.  We get back in our rig and leave all this craziness and set sails for Amarillo.

Well, we get to Amarillo and decide to head on towards home as the winds are supposed to be gusting the next day.  Just easier to make the drive today.  We really didn't have any excitement and got home before it got dark.  Nice trip and it was nice to get back home.  Diana reported they made it home safely and no more parts were lost along the way.  All good, and this trip was in the books!

The rest of August was pretty much a normal month for us.  We got the coach cleaned out and put back in her barn.  Our next venture will be heading west to Arizona.  I am so ready to get back....that will happen the end of September!

We officially put 185 miles on the RZR this last week and it performed flawlessly!  We enjoyed the trip very much.  Still no name for the RZR though...hopefully soon!
